A young footballer Zaki Anwari has died after desperately attempting to flee the country on a US military plane.

The 19-year-old fell off the clif of the plane shown in a viral social media video where more than 600 people were crammed into a C-17 Globemaster Three, with several others chasing as it run off the tarmac.

He was a member of the Afghan junior National Team and held dreams of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world one day.

In a statement, the General Director of Physical Education and Sports confirmed the footballer’s death:”a player of the national youth football team was among the hundreds who tried to leave the country by climbing on US military plane,” he said. “Anwari fell and died.”

The former youth team player, in his final Facebook post, said: “You’re the painter of your life. Don’t give the paint brush to anyone else.”

Many Afghans are desperate to leave the country with Taliban forces taking over the capital, Kabul.

Ofori has signed a two-year contract with Paderborn and is confident of helping them achieve promotion to the Bundesliga this season.

Shortly after the signing of his compatriot Bernard Tekpetey, who had previously worn the Paderborn jersey, Ofori joined Fortuna Düsseldorf in the summer of 2019.

The GFA announced following an Executive Council meeting, where the approval was granted.

The current 18 club format of the country’s top-flight league will be maintained for the initial years before any addition or otherwise.

The decision follows an elaborate discussions and consultations by the Autonomous Premier League Advisory Committee chaired by Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak Togbui Afede XIV.

The other Members included, GFA Executive Council member, Dr. Toni Aubynn, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Chairman of the Club Licensing Board and Delali Senaye, CEO of Inter Allies Football Club. Others were, Mr. John Ansah, Operations Manager of Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs Football Club.

The Advisory Committee is chaired by Togbe Afede XIV, Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club.

The Committee was instituted in June last year to start the process leading to the Ghana Premier League going autonomous.

The Ghana Premier League is currently organized and managed by the GFA.

The 18-club competition is managed by the Premier League Committee chaired by Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D Jawula with day-to-day administrative support from the Competitions Department of the GFA.

Thus, the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League will be the qualifying competition to the autonomous Ghana Premier League managed by a separate company outside the GFA, jointly owned by the clubs with the GFA owning a special share.

The GFA will handle Registration of players and officials and Disciplinary issues as required by FIFA.

The participating clubs will be taken through a special process and education leading to the full implementation in the 2022/23 season.
