Hearts of Oak’s dream of winning the double this season is alive after a clinical 3-0 win over Medeama on Sunday put them through to the final of the 2020/2021 MTN Ghana FA Cup final.

#wherelegonlives

The Phobians will now face AshantiGold – who beat Berekum Chelsea 4-1 early on- in the final.

With the opener on 12 minutes, midfielder Benjamin Afutu Kotey applied a blistering header to a cross from Isaac Mensah.

Mensah later turned scorer- aided by poor goalkeeping- to double their lead and Daniel Barnieh scored from the spot to seal the win.

Richard Attah made his first save of the match in the 24th minute when Medeama captain Joseph Tetteh Zutah fired a feeble shot at goal.

Two minutes in the second half, Isaac Mensah’s attempt from just outside the box was blocked by stalwart defender Vincent Atingah.

The second stanza was tight and compact but Medeama looked exhilarating with their passing game.

Kwadwo Asamoah produced a half volley from outside the penalty arc but it was mis-directed at goal and so Hearts survived another scare.

#wherelegonlives

Medeama’s embroidery was nice but they lacked the cutting despite bombarding the area of the Phobians with aerial balls.

In one of those moments, Amed Toure was clattered in from behind in the box when he jumped to chest down across. The ball rolled

Just before the hour mark, Hearts doubled their lead thanks to a goalkeeping howler by Frank Boateng.

The Medeama No.1 ended up failing to clear an innocuous ball at the back after it bounced on the turf and veered pass him onto the path of Mensah who had the easiest task of rolling the ball into a gaping net.

Medeama tried to pull one back when Kwadwo Asamoah was given all the time in the world to try shot from distance- this left Hearts goalie Attah yelling at his players.

Shortly afterwards, Hearts of Oak were awarded a penalty when Boateng brought down Daniel Barnieh.

The spot kick had to be taken twice after the first one was stopped by Boateng but he was offline so it had to be retaken.

Barnieh kept his composure and this time sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it three-nil.

With a quarter of an hour left to play, Eric Kwakwa had a decent chance to pull one back for the Tarkwa-based side but from close range, he shot feebly into the hands of Attah.

There was a late flurry from Hearts of Oak but Medeama stood firm and repelled all that including a super save from goalkeeper Boateng to stop a missile from Barnieh.

In added on time, Toure shockingly failed to hit target from close range after a decent cross came in from the left flank.

AshantiGold cruised to the final of the 2020/21 MTN Ghana FA Cup after an extra-time goal secured a 4-1 win over a ten-man Berekum Chelsea side on Sunday, 1 August 2021 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

A pair of goals in the first half of extra-time gave he Miners the upper hand after the first half goal was cancelled out by substitute Stephen Sarfo in regulation.

Three minutes to full time, Seth Osei slotted home from close range to seal that big win for the Miners.

But Berekum Chelsea were a decent side and it was striker Kofi Owusu who fired the first warning shot.

He took a bold attempt from the centre circle after spotting goalkeeper Kofi Mensah was off his line but his long range ball went off the line.

After the first quarter, AshantiGold won a free-kick on the left flank which was whipped in but captain Richard Osei Agyemang’s header went over the bar

Berekum Chelsea worked their way into the box with a lovely move but a cross onto the head of Atta-Adjei was wide at the far post.

The Blues came close again but brave goalkeeping save AshGold from conceding .

AshGold came under pressure after a header from Empem Dacosta to cut out a free-kick came off the side post before Kofi Owusu’s shot at goal was palmed out by Kofi Mensh on the line.

On the half hour mark, winger Isaac Opoku Agyeman weaved his way on the flank into the box but Stepen Anokye Badu produced a sliding tackle to stop him from pulling the trigger.

In injury time of the first half, AshantiGold jumped into the lead courtesy a superb free-kick from Eric Esso.

The midfielder produced a beautiful curler which zoomed over the wall into the roof with goalkeeper Sammy Adjei completely beaten.

Six minutes into the second half, substitute Stephen Sarfo leveled for Berekum Chelsea.

He controlled a cross from the right inside the box with his chest before slotting past goalkeeper Mensah.

A glorious opportunity fell to Kofi Owusu to double Chelsea’s lead but he mis-kicked a knocked down ball from Stephen Amankona.

Amankona nearly put Chelsea ahead on 77 minutes but his low shot was superbly saved by Kofi Mensah.

It was a lovely move from Chelsea after some sleek passing play.

Esso tried his luck with a free-kick in the 88th minute but this time his effort was a skied one.

Two minutes into extra-time, Amos Nkrumah powerfully struck a rocket into the roof of the net from 25 yards.

Minutes, Chelsea were reduced to ten men when Benjamin Baidoo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card following a push on Mark Agyekum on the flank.

In added on time of the first half of extra-time, Amos Addai -left unmarked-was released on the right side and he went at goal before dribbling past goalkeeper Adjei to fire home the third.

The Ghana international had to be substituted in the first half at the Emirates.

Myron Boadu is set to be announced as a new player by AS Monaco after the French giants reached an agreement with AZ Alkmaar.

Monaco have also agreed personal terms with Boadu’s agent Mino Railo after an initial misunderstanding which nearly resulted in the club walking away.

According to the trusted Fabrizio Romano, Boadu’s transfer will be made official by Monaco after the striker completes medicals and paperwork during the weekend.

#wherelegonlives

The Netherlands international of Ghanaian descent spent seven years at AZ. He joined AZ academy at 13 years old and Boadu progressed through the ranks with the Dutch club before making his first-team debut in May 2018.

The young forward started the following season in excellent form, scoring three and assisting two in AZ’s first five games, however, an ankle injury ruled him out for the vast majority of the remainder of the campaign.

A fine 2019/20 season came next, with Boadu netting 20 goals in all competitions. Last year was equally as fruitful for the promising forward. The 20-year-old netted 15 times in 31 Eredivisie games.

Unfortunately, he did not make Netherlands squad that crashed out of the Euros at the last 16 stage.

STUDENT SIDE HUSTLE- MR. BRIAN BOAFFO

While on campus, students may be interested to get a side job so many reasons but mainly

1. For financial support; to raise money for fees or support their livelihood on campus financially

2. To get the experience and be exposed to the job market. Now you complete school and starts to look for job, companies will be requiring 3years experience and stuff. And how are you going to get that of you just graduated?

Others may include, for prestige or just occupy oneself and get busy with work as the person’s timetable maybe a very flexible one with lots of free time to spare

As a regular student, the school sees you as one who is willing to do a full time studies and if you want to get a side job, you will have to consider that.

First of all, you’ll possibly be free during the weekends as there will be academic work during the week days. And sometimes even the weekends are occupied with group studies, tutorials and quizzes in the case of UCC for instance

So if you’re going to get a job, it should be one that

1. will require you to work only during the weekends.

2. or one that is flexible to allow you go in out at your own free will but mainly from agreement based on the structure of your timetable

3. Or one that is paid based on hours worked

I’ll list a few jobs students can look out for when looking for one but it’s essential to note that, not a one size fits all and hence the matter of which job is appropriate will differ from one person to the other on many grounds

So as a regular student, aside from the regular factors you consider when looking for a job such as the remuneration, your availability, the conducive nature of the work, your qualifications, other incentives etc you should also consider

1. The programme you’re reading as some programmes will require more time and extra work and wouldn’t permit a side work or side works to a certain level

2. You should also consider your strengths and weakness academically and how discipline you are to be able to blend the two without compromising your studies.

3. The nature of the work; the time required and how tiresome the work can be. Remember, you may have to be working in between your lecture hours and you can’t afford to opt for a job that will render you tired and depriving you of a sound mind to study.

So you should consider if the job is going to allow you to continue perform well academically while also performing well on the job

That said, here are a few jobs a regular student can consider:

A shop attendant
A typist or working in a printing shop
Online paid work (Encouraged)
Paid Volunteering on campus
A subject teacher in the university’s lower schools; shs, jhs, or primary
Job openings at various faculties and departments
A paid teaching assistant to a lecturer
A personal aide to a lecturer
And many more

But the best is to be a sole proprietor or best put, to be an entrepreneur. Set up your own business and that way, you can manipulate it to suite your work and your academics.

💥 Selling of airtime
💥 A graphic designer
💥 A caterer to sell food comfortable hours, mostly at nights or to be taking orders for events
💥 Students seamstress
💥 Mobile Money
💥 A studies teacher

And many more, mainly based on your talents, skills, knowledge and abilities. But running a self-made business may be the best option for a regular student.

OPEN LETTER TO UNIVERSITY OF GHANA MANAGEMENT➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Background

In the wake of events happening around the globe and on our beloved land Ghana, certain facets of the human life has been brought to a standstill with authorities looking for appropriate, expedient and empathetic ways of resolving the issue at hand. The educational facet has also faced a major hit with students at home from the rudimentary level to tertiary . However, certain decisions being taken at the tertiary level by management of some of these tertiary institutions does not reflect an empathetic approach.

Situational analysis
The management of the University of Ghana in its quest to find an alternative remedy to the said malady of what the pandemic has caused in the educational system in these past days decided to bring on board an online programme to assist and continue the routine educational physical experience in an online mode with the provision of sim cards complimented with internet data. This initiative to some extent is commendable and is due the applauds received. There’s an obvious abnormally that needs a critical normalization or the need for the abrogation of the whole initiative. Thus, the initiative has a tendency to discriminate geographically and wouldn’t serve a common good to some under privileged students. Consequently, the natural abortion of the desired end by its means becomes inevitable.
Have management wondered the financial efforts of ghanaian parents to put their wards through school and asking them to have their ward defer because of their inability to afford certain privileges to facilitate an E-learning programme rolled out by the school without hearing them out first and taking a decision on your own as management? forgetting that the students are also stakeholders and giving the excuse that students were not on campus as that time due to the directive of the President to have all schools and educational institutions close down. Don’t we have the leadership of the student body; the SRC to be consulted to solicit for students view before rolling out this initiative?

Challenge
The quest of management to ensure that students continue to receive education should not be done to create educational inequity. The University’s fraternity of students is not made up of equally privileged students coming from the same background. There are students who are duly members of the University community who find themselves in deprived areas where network connectivity reception is a hurdle for the smooth facilitation of an online study and engagements of which is an impediment to their educational growth and attainment of their academic goals. Besides, the knowledge of telecommunication service providers not providing a uniform and stable network connectivity across the entire country is not a hidden knowledge. There are certain parts of the country that the said network service provider contracted by the school’s management does not cover and other network service providers do not also have a full coverage of.
Notwithstanding, management should also take into account that there are some communities or social enclaves in Ghana that still do not have access to electricity supply and therefore are not able to enjoy what others in privileged communities are enjoying. Management should bear in mind that there are students from the aforementioned category of who are legitimately students and members of the University community per the student – institution contract stipulated in the admission letter that places onus on the school to ensure that students receive what is due them in a considerable holistic beneficial way to every student. Praeter haec, I would like to ask management to empathetically ponder over those who do not have access to the technological device to be able to facilitate participation in the e-learning programme. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation ( UNESCO ) in a report on education across the world raises the issue of educational inequity emanating as a result of the disparity in access to technological devices by students thereby giving those from well to do backgrounds an advantage over their counterparts which does not help in reaching the United Nations policy on education becoming accessible to all.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Loooking at the current state of the nation, it is obvious that only time can tell when it will be safe to have students back in the lecture halls. Notwithstanding management must put measures in place to make available study materials such as slides and lecture videos on our various platforms through whatever medium a lecturer could get in touch with students so that we can read and study ahead as we wait upon the rightful time to get back to the lecture room for teaching and learning to continue for the remaining weeks in the semester. Also, involvement of all telecommunications is one that if considered will salvage the situation currently. The vodafone network isn’t accessible in all parts of the country and so the suitable network available for the student is what should be employed. I believe that by this idea, the fright of failure and the woes of students in this trying times Will be minimized.
